Shackleford Banks Shelling & Wild Horse Expedition

Fantastic! Right off the bat we saw a mom horse here fole and another horse, we saw them from on the ferry, then walked to get a better look at them. The tour guide, Cindy, was very knowledgeable and knew the horses well. Great water to swim in, nice soft sand. So many shells for shelling, Cindy (our guide) found an unbroken lightning welk, which are a rare find, and shelling gave it to us! We stayed from 9:30 until 12:30, and we had a great time! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great wild horse tour!

I have to say that we paid a little more for this boat ride out to the island than we could have bought tickets at the dock from other places. HOWEVER, this was not just a boat ride to Shackleford Island. We got a tour guide. Jake. He was super familiar with the island and knowing where to find the horses. Some people on the boat had a ride to the island. They did not get to see the horses that day. Jake was our tour guide and went out of his way to find the horses for us. He was fantastic. He also had sunblock and mosquito spray we could use. You do have to walk a lot through soft sand so be prepared and don't wear flip flops or open toed shoes.

Great place to visit!!! Got some awesome pictures to remember the day by, and it was great to see the newest addition to the horses. Mom was nice enough to allow us to take photos while she grazed. Yes bring water, yes there are ticks so check yourself often, if your hiking the island and go into the woods. follow the red flag marked trails, and there are spider webs everywhere in the woods, so if you don't like spiders. You have been warned. Pack light as the hills and loose sand will make you regret carrying extra stuff.
