Offbeat roadside attraction featuring an adobe mound covered in colorful religious folk art.
This is off the beaten path. It’s a religious shrine that took many years to to build. It’s interesting but unless you are someone who likes this type of shrine, I think for me it’s just a one and done. It really did not have any significance for myself, but for others it would. I did like an admire all the handcrafted work that was put in to building this over the years.
This is something that is definitely worth the drive if you're anywhere in the area. The road into Slab City isn't very well maintained and the desert Sun takes its toll on it but it isn't terrible and it's well worth the effort.
Once again, one of those places around the Salton Sea that perfectly mixes beauty, art, and strangeness (in a non-offensive way). The staff are very friendly, and the atmosphere is truly unique. Parking is free, and the visit is 100% free as well. If you’re on a road trip in the area, this is definitely a must-visit stop and don’t forget to leave a small tip to support the place.
