Museum featuring exhibits on the history of Nevada, particularly the historic Carson City Mint.
Okay the reason I am giving this a 3 is because honestly the museum should’ve been closed down for an event that they were having for children or better yet have it for them in the evening when there wasn’t paying customers there. There was absolutely NO museum etiquette. There was children running around playing hide and seek, crop dusting (there words not mine), children running into old people, and the noise was OFF the chart… and honestly the list could go on & on…just ridiculous. Why it should’ve been in the evening. This could’ve been an amazing state museum… But the only thing sadly I was able to enjoy (quite just because the rude children weren’t there yet) was coin presser. Otherwise we were rushing or getting run into ALL the time or not being able to access the whole museum. I really think when they are having an awards ceremony maybe you should just shut the museum down or do it outside (it was a beautiful day to have it outside) where’s there’s more room or in a room where’s there’s more room. NOT inside RIGHT there where people pay to the left. (ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!) By having the event right there the paying customers CAN NOT access the whole museum or the gift shop and it rather frustrating not being able to do so. So my recommendation to the paying customers yes this could be a nice visit BUT…. Seriously… if you see children lined up t go into the museum…I would HIGHLY recommend going a different day. They have NO control of the establishment on how children act. Very frustrating.. As you can see I absolutely did not enjoy myself but sadly just 1 thing and honestly that’s just because the kids weren’t there yet. Would I recommend this place yes…ONLY if there is NO bus tour of a school or science fair etc.. Sadly I won’t be going back. So good luck.
Impressive museum with history of Nevada. Native American culture; a mine - yep you can actually walk down and get a little experience of it - enough to see how difficult it was and how grateful and blessed I am not to have had this as a family occupation. There is the mint (formerly big business in this building) and coin press - still in operation. Beautiful geology exhibit with gorgeous rocks. Even a woolly mammoth! Definitely worth a visit.
This was one of the best museums to date we've been to. The mining exhibit was so cool, never seen anything like it before in a museum. They dug out a good portion of the basement and made it look like a working 1800s mine, it was definitely worth the visit! They still strike mint coins on Saturday and we'll be back for that in the future. Lots of geology, dinosaurs, mining, taxidermy and especially the history firearms exhibits were great for me.
