About
The Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a national memorial centered on a colossal sculpture carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills near Keystone, South Dakota, United States. The sculptor, Gutzon Borglum, named it the Shrine of Democracy, and oversaw the execution from 1927 to 1941 with the help of his son, Lincoln Borglum. The sculpture features 60-foot-tall (18 m) depictions of the heads of four United States presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln, respectively chosen to represent the nation's foundation, expansion, development, and preservation. Mount Rushmore attracts more than two million visitors annually to the memorial park which covers 1,278 acres. The mountain's elevation is 5,725 feet (1,745 m) above sea level.

This place was more wonderful than I could have ever imagined!! Never dreamed that I would see this up close in real life! Just remember learning about it in our history books in elementary school..never dreamed I’d actually be standing in front of it one day!!! To say I was excited was an understatement!! It had so much more to offer than I thought it would. There is the visitor center with its own souvenir shop downstairs, which supports your national parks with your purchases, and also another gift shop up above, which gives a percentage of sales to the park. It also has a cafe with lots to choose from! We went super early, like 7am, on a Monday morning, in November…so it was a tad chilly, but the peacefulness of being there alone was well worth it, and it made for some great pics without anyone else being in them lol! If this is on your bucket list, run, don’t walk!! Hopefully you will be awestruck with amazement as I was! Don’t forget those souvenirs either…help support your parks!!
The drive up was absolutely gorgeous. The monument itself is awe inspiring. Very clean and there are monitors documenting how it was completed...so cool. There is a cafe and gift shop as well...kind staff. Parking is $10 & good for a year!
The best $10.00 spent. The $10.00 is for parking. The trail was so beautiful and scenic. At one point, you are literally standing beneath looking up at the faces. Everyone should experience this.
