Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort

This was my first stay at Mt Princeton Hot Springs Resort. I’ll start with the positives, where there is room for improvement. The views are spectacular. The location is great. The hot springs in the creek were the only ones I went in and they were hot and felt great! I enjoyed them in the morning before it got too busy. In order to access the hot springs in the creek you have to climb down rocks. It wasn’t a problem for me, but I saw a man fall on the rocks trying to get down to the springs. Access could be improved. The grounds appear well maintained and the location along the creek was beautiful. All of the staff I encountered were courteous and helpful. It was nice to have a little general store on site. My biggest complaint about this place is that nothing is open before 8:00am. You cannot get a cup of coffee or tea, eat breakfast or go in the pools/springs before 8:00am or 9:00am for some of the springs/pools. I strongly recommend that the restaurant, general store and pools be open at 7:00am. I am a tea drinker and the Nespresso machine in my room wasn’t working or wouldn’t give me hot water. At a minimum the resort should have a self service coffee and tea station set up in the lobby, or on the bar in the restaurant. I stayed in a Hillside room and it was a basic hotel room. There is no sign to the Hillside rooms and I wound up at the Cliffside rooms before finding it. I ate breakfast on site which was good. It is a nice feature to have access to the springs/pools for 2 days…the day of check in and check out (I stayed 1 night).

I've visited Mount Princeton Hot Springs many times over many years and have always enjoyed our stays, which is why this visit was disappointing. The staff was friendly and welcoming, actually friendlier than some of our past experiences and that was appreciated. However, for the price of a one- or two-night stay, I expect a much higher overall experience. The biggest issue was cleanliness. The women's restroom near the main middle pools and in the bathhouse was absolutely horrid. Cleanliness did not appear to be a priority and significantly impacted our experience. We also ordered takeout to enjoy in our room. Paying $45 for a steak dinner and not receiving a steak knife was frustrating. The room only had a butter knife, and we were provided plastic utensils. Small details like this matter when you're paying resort prices. Additionally, there wasn't a disposable cup available in the room for coffee to go. The only coffee cups provided was a mug already sitting in the dishwasher within the room. While we still enjoyed parts of our stay and appreciated the staff, the overall cleanliness and lack of attention to basic guest conveniences made this trip feel very different from the Mount Princeton experience we've come to expect over the years. It is also a bummer that the upper pools close so early at 5pm, kids had a great time, but not super accommodating for kids.

The location and staff were good. Beds comfy. However there is NO A/C. I don't know how you can run a wedding and event venue and not have air conditioning in the event centers. It was miserably hot, we were in the lodge up on the hill. There is a second, snaller event lodge on the hill and it doesn't have a/c either. It was in the 90s our entire visit. Our family stayed in a few different cabins on the hill and none had a/c. They were miserably hot and it was hard to sleep. It does cool down in the early am but then super hot again by 10am. The pools are all hot as well so the only way to cool down was to go in the river. The river part was very nice. The pool water slides are very fast! Only people who know how to swim can use them. No floaties or goggles allowed. They won't allow you to stay at the bottom and catch your kid coming down like they used to. So other than float in hot water in hot weather there's not much for little kids to do.
