Scenic area set aside to protect the lake's unique limestone spires, plus wetlands & bird habitats.
The Tufa Towers formations show what nature can do with a few basic elements. These strange spires and knobs are formed when fresh water springs containing calcium bubble up through the carbonate - rich lake water . These waters forms calcium carbonate, a white limestone deposits that displays these basic elements of the Tufa formations. I was so intrigued by the beauty, of these formations, as I had never knew something like this existed.
It’s a salt lake. Not many remaining writhed the world. Most salt lakes on california have dried all up and turned into desert landscapes. Just like the Trona pinnacles which it used to be a saltine lake. The landscape and topography are crazy to see. It’s very close to Yosemite National park but many people don’t visit here.
Looks beautiful from 39000 feet in the air ! I hope to visit some day for a closer view :)) the water and the mountains around a truly magical from air.
