Built in 1952, this mile-high pedestrian bridge offers sweeping views of Grandfather Mountain.
The wait in line is worth it, but I also recommend getting there as early as you can. The view from literally any viewpoint is stunning, especially now, Mid October. Best to wear hiking boots, as you will get the ultimate views & pictures from the boulders just before & after the bridge itself.
From the parking at the top of the mountain, it’s a very short and easy walk over to the swing bridge. A very unusual sight to see but welcome, certainly an experience few people can have otherwise without fairly extensive hiking. If you’re confident on your feet and the wind isn’t up, venture past the end of the bridge on the other side and climb to the rocky peak beyond (again and very short 5 minute walk at the absolute most) for some truly incredible views of the blue ridge mountains.
What a fun experience! Went during Labor Day weekend, so they were charging more than normal. (Paid $35 per person) We enjoyed the nature center, the animal habitats, and the hike up to the actual bridge. If I ever happen to be in this area again, I would surely return!
