It’s actually a pretty small sand dune. If you’ve been to White Sands or anywhere with big, dramatic dunes, you probably don’t need to go out of your way to come here. It’s not that kind of scale. But honestly, the sand quality here is really good. It’s soft, fine, and feels nice to walk on. So even though it’s small, it’s still a pleasant stop if you’re already nearby.

Great spot for sunrise! Sun rises at 7am, and we arrived at 6:20. Perfect spot to watch the sun hit the mountains. Looks like a fun place to explore during the day but there is very little shade. There’s bathrooms and stovepipe wells village is one mile away.

Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes really shocked me in a good way! It looks totally different from all the other points in Death Valley. I was not expecting such beautiful sand dunes here. This is a must visit place for photos, the patterns on the sand come out very nicely. It’s also a very good spot for stargazing. I went around 4:00 am when the moon was setting, and for some time it was completely dark. I was able to see the Milky Way without staying awake the whole night, which was an amazing experience for me. Overall, one of the best and unique places in Death Valley. Definitely don’t miss it.
