Bright, contemporary smokehouse with communal tables serving classic BBQ, sides & drinks.
Incredible restaurant wow. You must go with an appetite! The food is delicious and plentiful! We were 5 and shared the platter, wings, Mac n cheese and a the spicy Caesar salad. Incredible. The brisket and pulled pork were my favorite; my friend raved continuously about the moist chicken. Had the pecan pie for dessert as recommended and I would also highly recommend!! Great drink options, great atmosphere (very laid back), great service and great sauces. Must go
MEAT has been serving Texas-style barbecue just off Whyte Ave since 2014. The owners, who also operated The Next Act next door, actually traveled to Texas to learn more about the barbecue style they wanted to bring back to Edmonton, which is a pretty cool piece of history behind the place. Went to MEAT while visiting Edmonton and had a great experience. It’s a really solid BBQ spot, and the surrounding Whyte Ave/Old Strathcona area has a cool vibe too. It’s only about 5–10 minutes from downtown, so I’d definitely say it’s worth making the stop for lunch or dinner. We went for dinner, sat outside, and left absolutely full. The service was quick, friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Our server had great energy and was really helpful with recommendations, especially when it came to figuring out how much food we actually needed to order. For drinks, I tried the Blindman Longshadows IPA and the Rival Trade Berry Cream Ale, both of which paired really well with the BBQ. For food, my girlfriend and I shared a half-pound of Carolina pulled pork, a brisket sandwich, mac and cheese, and cornbread. That was more than enough food for the two of us. Everything was really good, especially the meats, and the portions made the prices feel very reasonable for BBQ. I also liked the casual setup and being able to order a few different things to share rather than everyone being locked into one meal. Overall, great BBQ, good beer, friendly service, and a fun atmosphere. I would absolutely come back the next time I’m in Edmonton and highly recommend MEAT if you’re looking for a filling BBQ lunch or dinner.
Had a great dining experience at MEAT. The food was delicious, and the portions were generous. The meat was flavorful and perfectly cooked, the fries were crispy, and the mac and cheese was creamy. Everything looked appetizing and tasted great. Would love to come back again.
