Historic desert resort offering stylish, cosy rooms & casitas, plus restaurants & pools.
The lobby, the restaurant, the buildings, everything is stunning the way they renovated this place after it was shut down for years. This place was established in 1936, so some of the comments about the place being dated are a little out of place. I found out about it about 10 years ago, from a person who redeveloped it and they were generously offering free stays as one of the auction items for a museum I volunteer at. I finally decided to come here and it was really an awesome experience. Summer is the low season, which I like, because all the pools were empty, the gym was empty, and it was 100° outside, LOL. The Casitas are really comfortable, and super spacious. I stayed in Palm 61, which is a king bed Casita, and you can see how spacious it is. Some of the other properties are twice the size, they look like regular single family homes. The grounds are well-maintained and they have a really nice restaurant in the bar, as you can see from the photos. I drove in from Highway 79 so it was a little weird driving for an hour through nothing but hillside, and then arriving at Borrego Springs. You can see in some of the photos what the drive was like but I think other people come in from the Palm Springs area. The lobby in the restaurant are beautiful old original buildings, the display the history of this place. Funny things that have four golf clubs in a yacht club here. And if you come, make sure you come to the Market Cafe which it looks like a building with guest rooms but it's actually one big open room, see you there last few photos. They call Borrego Springs the international black Skytown because you can see all the stars at night, just like at the Grand Canyon, as well as The Milky way. They also have a Borrego Palm Canyon just like Palm Springs has its Palm canyon, both of which are real desert oasis.
We came for dinner but didn’t stay here so can’t comment on the rooms but the public areas are lovely and dinner was delicious! There were five of us and we all enjoyed our meals—salmon, short ribs, and steak. The wine list is well-priced and service was terrific and attentive. The dining room is elegant and decor is in keeping with the property’s Spanish colonial vibe. There’s also an outdoor seating area and a small but inviting bar.
What a nice hotel! Rooms were clean, but destroyed my feet on rug strip-nails. I do not think it typical not to have every-day room turn down, so will try again in the future. Will update then because it feels like a good to great place
