Johnston Canyon

A winter walk in **Johnston Canyon** is truly magical. Snow-covered trails, frozen waterfalls, and sparkling ice formations create a breathtaking atmosphere. The wooden walkways are safe and well maintained even in winter, making the hike comfortable and enjoyable. The scenery feels like a winter fairy tale, with fresh air and peaceful silence all around. It’s an unforgettable experience and one of the most beautiful places to visit during the winter season. The final part of the road to it was slippery and therefore we drove very slowly, so it is worth considering this! There were few visitors, there were many free spaces in the parking lot.

Johnston Canyon is a must-see, especially for the incredible views at the Lower Falls, which is about a 15–20 minute hike from the free parking lot. There are free washrooms available at the trailhead, which is very convenient. Winter Tip: The trail becomes very icy starting about 500m from the lot. While we managed to go up in sneakers by using the green side rails for support and balance, I highly recommend wearing cleats/ice spikes. It is quite difficult and slippery without them! The effort is worth it, though, as the frozen falls look exactly like the stunning pictures you see online. A great winter adventure!
