Inverary Resort

Do you enjoy spending 5-star prices for 1-star accommodations? This is the resort for you! I'm sure many decades ago (around the time the first Trudeau was prime minister), this place was the height of luxury, but much like an alcoholic rhythm guitarist of a 1980's hair band, this place has really let itself go. The rooms smell like mouse urine, have questionable plumbing, carpets that look like they made from a 50/50 cotton/fungus blend. If you're extremely lucky, you might get hot water in the morning. On the upside, the windows look like they've been upgraded in the last 25 years, so there is that. The pool REEKS of chloramine and body odor. Lots of places for bacteria to hide in the cracked pool liner and sweaty, peeling wallpaper. I would avoid it. The staff seems nice enough, but they look overworked and depressed. Dealing with a long line of unsatisfied customers suck your soul away, so I get it. Running a dive hotel like this is fine, as long as its priced accordingly. But its not. You will pay like royalty and stay like trailer trash. Baddeck is a neat little town, and a good stopping place before hitting the Cabot trail. Its nice to be within walking distance. But it has other nice resorts now. Maybe try them out.

We spent one night here. We had originally booked a "traditional" room but ended up making a switch to the main lodge where the rooms had been updated. It was a drastic difference. The room was clean and comfortable. We had drinks at both The Lakeside and The Narrows. Service was good. The Narrows has live music until 11pm which was wonderful. We also had the buffet breakfast - it had everything you needed for a solid meal (eggs, pancakes, pastries, fruit, yogurt, sausage, bacon, potatoes).

We were here for a day and we loved our accommodation. They have live music and that was literally the best part of our stay. We loved their food and overall service, too.
