Landmark 1857 hotel offering classic rooms with vintage-style decor, plus free breakfast & parking.
I honestly expected this hotel to be run down based on some of the reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. While the furniture, floors, and walls are definitely old, the hotel was clean and it’s clear that housekeeping does a good job maintaining the rooms. The building itself has a lot of character. The lobby feels very historical and gives you the sense that you’re staying somewhere with real history rather than a modern chain hotel. They also have a very old elevator, which is pretty cool to experience. It definitely adds to the historic atmosphere and you can feel the age and energy of the building when you use it. The balcony was a nice feature and it was great to be able to look out at the surrounding area. The location itself was fun to explore. There isn’t a huge nightlife scene, but it was nice that the Green Room was right across the street and had a comedy night while we were there. Staff and locals were friendly overall, and the area felt safe. We even had skis in our car overnight in the parking lot and nothing was touched, which was refreshing coming from San Francisco. Overall, I had a good experience and I’m glad I stayed here. I might personally choose somewhere else next time just because the haunted energy of the building was a little strong for me, but if you enjoy historic hotels with character, this is definitely a unique place to stay.
My husband and I stayed at Historic Cary House Hotel for two nights. We had a nice stay. Check-in and Check-out was very easy. The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful. Parking is in a lot near the hotel and there is a $10 fee per day. We stayed in the James Marshall room located on an upper floor. The room had a living room with a kitchenette, bedroom and a bathroom with a shower. While the room is spacious and clean, it definitely needs an update. I understand it’s a historic hotel, but our room was a bit tired looking. Also, there is an overpowering lemon disinfectant smell in the room. It is great to just exit the front door and walk to so many great restaurants and shops in Placerville.
I love this place. The rooms are awesome. We had a king size bed. The best part is that you can walk right out the front doors and you’re in old town tons of shopping tons of places to eat there’s a bar right across the way and you don’t have to drive anywhere. Service was very friendly and helpful thank you Carly I believe the name was
