Remains of a vast Confederate fort, with a visitors center featuring displays of artifacts.
We had a wonderful time exploring the fort while walking the trail around the fort and beach section. There's a museum on the second floor that is very informative about the fort as well as lots of artifacts from earlier excavations. Also a gift shop and restrooms inside on the first floor. No entrance fee, but there is a donation box to help with maintenance costs.
Visited fort fisher with my two toddlers, pretty interesting place to visit , easy walk for the kids, fun for the parents. Only thing to be careful of , crossing the road in the crosswalk to get there is dangerous. People fly down that road.
Kure Beach is our go to vacation spot whenever we go to the beach. Fort Fisher Museum is pretty interesting, the tour is a self guided tour and it’s free. They also have a souvenir shop with some pretty cool items. They have redone a lot of things on the grounds and the building itself so it’s much nicer than it used to be. It’s worth going to at least once! We hadn’t been since everything was remodeled and it is extremely nice!
