Rustic cabins, some with kitchens, in a lakeside getaway featuring a marina & a restaurant/bar.
We had a fabulous stay in one of the camping cabins. Upon arrival around dinner time we were warmly greeted and had a wonderful bowl of chili. Staff were friendly, helpful and fun!! Peaceful cup of coffee lakeside the next morning then we hit the nearby trails. We will be back!!
The Elk Lake resort is in the midst of a multi-year transition in 2026, resulting in upgrades to the cabins, camping, facilities and lodge. We love Elk lake and have rented a cabin from the resort for many years, in the summer, for family get-togethers. The cabins range from basic and fairly rough (but fun to stay in) to relatively newer and fancier. We have mostly rented cabin 26, a large cabin that sleeps up to 10 people and is the only cabin with 2 bathrooms. The resort has always had challenges with cabin maintenance, given the harsh environment during winters, and hard use in a forested environment in the summers. The new owners are investing in upgrades, and some were visible in the cabin this summer, though significant upgrades (especially in the kitchen and critter-proofing) could be made. The cabin was mostly clean when we arrived, though the kitchen floor and decks (and deck furniture) were pretty dirty. We understand the challenges the resort has here. Another feature of the cabins is that you must be willing to share the inside with the occasional critter - squirrels and mice being to most common. They get in through many places; under the dishwasher, though the fireplace, under doors of a little used closet, doors left open, or a new hole they borrowed in the winter... Staff will respond, but there is only so much they can do. The lodge remodel was successfully completed, and the interior and exterior dining areas are significantly upgraded. We were happy with the service and quality of the food, though the kitchen closes at 5:30pm, so plan accordingly. The official change in pet policy was a challenge for our family this year; and the initial policy was apparently relaxed by the time we arrived. Watch this space? Our youngest daughter usually drives from Colorado springs with her beloved dog and stays the week with us at the lake. Due to the official policy at the time of booking (No pets in cabins or on resort grounds) she almost didn't come. She finally found a suitable pet sitter and we bought her airline tickets. When we arrived, the policy had apparently been relaxed; with dogs allowed, always on leash everywhere, even the beach areas. As it happened, there were many dogs onsite, none on leashes - oh well - we had no unleashed dog problems during our visit. Our family greatly enjoyed our time at the lake and plan to come back next year for another lovely Elk Lake get-together. We love the energy the new owners are bringing to the resort!
Drove up to the resort for lunch. It was wonderful. Beautiful sunny day during the week so jot too busy. Our first time and will definitely be back. Great family atmosphere and beautiful scenery. Both the food ans service was great.
