Colonial Williamsburg

Because we were on a very tight schedule we were only able to walk around this beautiful historic living museum for a few hours. For that reason, we opted not to buy the tickets that are needed to go into many of the historic buildings, but still had a great time interacting with the people in character who always did a great job of answering questions and making suggestions on how to best spent what little time we had here. There's plenty of stuff to do for free and we had a great time just taking in the rich history and outdoor entertainment, while also ogling the exterior of so many beautiful buildings. There's also plenty of shopping and dining venues. Wear comfortable shoes because seeing the village involves lots of walking.

We spent Christmas 2025 here and we had so much fun. The people were azing and so informative. They not only played the part but the where the part. The tours were good and the museums had a lot and I mean a lot of stuff. They also do ghost tours at night and those are packed full of cool stories and lots of information. We loved it and didn't want to leave.

This place was awesome! Everything is outside so try to go when there’s good weather. At least Jamestown and Yorktown can mostly be inside if you’re having some rainy days (especially Yorktown). 100 yrs of turning an entire town into a museum—Wow! It would take days to experience all of this! There is one operating tavern with actors in costume and period appropriate live music, although it is expensive with a limited menu—looked cool though! The modern stuff is clustered on the outskirts near Mellow Mushroom. Be prepared to do A LOT of walking! The govenor’s palace was superb—didn’t make it to the Capitol.
