Badwater Basin

Lots of water currently in the basin as of January 2nd 2026. You won't be able to walk the typical trail straight out as its currently underwater, but you can walk the edge of the water for quite a ways for some excellent views!! I arrived about an hour before sunrise and walked along the waters edge until I found a great spot to take pictures of the sunrise. I walked for about 30 minutes so it did take some time, but it was so worth it. There were a couple other people there with me taking photos and enjoying thw views. It was a near windless morning so the mountains reflected on the water, so stunning🤩 worth a visit!!

Lowest point in America, the view is breathtaking. Beware the place is very windy as it is the heart of the valley and extremely hot during summer, do not venture without water, sun protection or a plan. You will need to purchase a park pass at the visitor center or you can buy a park pass online and skip the stop. There are quite a few parking spaces but can fill up quickly, people do not stay very long though.

Badwater Basin is a must-visit place in Death Valley! The views are absolutely unreal, feels like you’re standing on another planet with endless white salt flats all around.  It’s one of the best photo spots I’ve ever been to, and I really loved the whole experience. Definitely a highlight of my trip!
