Step back in time at Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center, the essential starting point for exploring America's most pivotal Civil War battlefield. Delve into history within the comprehensive museum, marvel at the immersive Cyclorama, and embark on scenic trails that whisper tales of courage and sacrifice. This iconic site brings a defining moment in American history vividly to life.
The Gettysburg Museum and Visitor Center is a Gettysburg National Military Park facility, with a museum about the American Civil War, the 1884 Gettysburg Cyclorama, and the tour center for licensed Battlefield Guides and for buses to see the Gettysburg Battlefield and Eisenhower National Historic Site.
Read more on WikipediaThis is a great place to visit to learn about the Battle of Gettysburg and to get a sense of the extent and impact of the battle. Information was extremely well organized and presented. Every member of the staff that we interacted with was knowledgeable and friendly. There is so much to see and do that we spent an entire day and still felt we had only scratched the surface -- and were also still interested enough to want to return on another occasion. I recommend seeing the film and cyclorama, spending time in the museum, and doing a battlefield bus tour. The book shop in the visitor center is also very well stocked.
The visitor’s center and museum have added a lot to this experience. I feel like the museum really is a must-see - it is so well-done and has an incredible amount of artifacts. It tells the story of the Battle really well from both sides. I would recommend giving the museum at least a couple of hours before a driving tour.
This place was absolutely wonderful but I recommend planning to be there more than one day. There's just too much to learn about and take in with just a day's time. The museum and visitors center alone was worth spending a whole day. The history of the place and the exhibits inspire respect and reverence. Learning more about the battle with it's carnage and death makes me more thankful for the country we live in the people willing to put their lives on the line for it. Regardless of which side of the lines they fought on they all were fighting for a cause they loved and shaped our country.
